Shop standards

The decisions we have stopped debating. Each one costs us a little money and saves you a lot of grief. Published so you can disagree with us in advance.

Threads are chased, shells faced

Every frame leaves with its bottom bracket shell faced and every thread chased, including the ones the components will never touch. An unchased thread is a fault, not a saving.

Alignment confirmed twice

Once after brazing, once after paint. Paint can pull a frame a tenth of a degree and we refuse to let a colour do that unnoticed.

External routing, full housings

Full-length outer cables from lever to stop, on every model, on purpose. They shift better in winter and can be serviced anywhere by anyone.

BSA threaded bottom brackets

We are a threaded shop. Press-fit solved a manufacturing problem we do not have and created a creaking problem we refuse to import.

27.2 seatposts

A standard so good it has survived every attempt to replace it. Compliance you can tune with a post, repair with a $40 part.

Enamel over primer over phosphate

The paint system has three layers and no shortcuts. A chip touches up with a brush; a respray, decades off, goes down to bare steel without surprises.

The price of conviction

Some of these standards make frames heavier by grams and slower to build by hours. We think a bicycle should outlive its marketing, and every line above is written in that spirit. This page belongs to a fictional workshop and exists to demonstrate how a shop might state its principles plainly.
